Writing Contest Do you write poetry or prose, fiction or nonfiction?
The Friends of L. E. Phillips Memorial Public Library are sponsoring “Destination Library,” a writing contest celebrating the recent renovation of the library. Through mid-October, the Friends are accepting submissions of original prose, poetry, or song that reflect on reasons the library is the number one downtown destination. A $25.00 donation from the Book Marks Remembrance fund will be made in the name of each winner to buy library materials in a category of each winner’s choosing. learn more . . .
Teen Read Week, 2009 - Read for the Fun of It! : "Read Beyond Reality" Celebrate annual Teen Read Week, a program sponsored by The American Library Association/Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA).The 2009 theme is, Read for the Fun of It. The slogan is, Read Beyond Reality. Visit the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library and treat yourself to a good read! Whether you prefer fantasy, science fiction, manga, or something else entirely, we have the books for you! Or, check out a video game to explore alternative worlds. We have CD ROM, Nintendo Wii and Playstation Three formats.

Join YAAB! Want to help plan library programs for teens? Join us on the Young Adult Advisory Board!
There are currently open Seats on Young Adult Advisory Board at the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library The L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library is looking for teens with creative minds and lots of ideas to join the Young Adult Advisory Board (YAAB). The main objective of YAAB is to involve teens in the functioning of the library by seeking their creative ideas on programs, services and materials for teens. Board members will help plan, execute and attend programs; publicize teen activities to peers; recruit more YAAB members; help create an inviting teen atmosphere at the library; work with library staff to help with selection of teen materials; design and publish promotional materials for the library; and promote and encourage reading by teens.
Board members must be students in grades 6 through 12 and be willing to attend monthly meetings, programs and projects. Parental permission is required. Board members will be selected based on written responses on their applications.
