Land

Eau Claire County Register of Deeds
Records all land transactions within Eau Claire County. Grantee/Grantor indexes in book form are available for searching to March 1985. Computerized searching is available after that date.

Researching the History of Eau Claire Houses 
People research house histories for historic landmarking, genealogy, architectural history, clearing title or personal interest. The following techniques offered by Larry Lynch, former Archivist at the Area Research Center (ARC), will make your research both more productive and more rewarding. 

Wisconsin Land Records - Interactive Search
This is an interface to the Pre-1908 Homestead and Cash Entry Patents from the Bureau of Land Management's General Land Office (GLO) Automated Records Project.

Probate

Area Research Center (ARC)
Staff will assist students with research papers, instructors in planning class presentations and exercises, genealogists with their family research, and others with legal, local historical, or historic preservation topics. Online Reference Requests are accepted. The ARC has probate records from 1859-1916 among its holdings.

Eau Claire County Clerk of Courts
By law, probate records are open to the public. Researchers can look up their own records by locating the case number in the docket book at the Eau Claire County Courthouse. Copies may be made for a small fee. The charge is $4 per record if you need assistance in finding a record. Cases before 1916 are located at the Area Research Center. The Wisconsin Circuit Court provides access to more recent court records.

Vital Records

Area Research Center (ARC)
The ARC, located on the UW-Eau Claire campus, is a cooperative project of the University and the Wisconsin Historical Society to preserve historical records in a six-county region consisting of Buffalo, Chippewa, Clark, Eau Claire, Rusk and Taylor counties. The ARC has vital statistics records for all six counties (through 1907), as well as divorce records prior to 1915. Online Reference Requests are accepted at http://www.uwec.edu/Library/archives/materialuse/remoteRes.htm

 

Eau Claire County Register of Deeds
Houses all birth, death and marriage indexes and records for Eau Claire County, Wisconsin. Most records are available to researchers on a walk-in basis. This office is located at the Eau Claire County Courthouse, 721 Oxford Ave., Eau Claire, WI 54703. Space allows only two researchers at a time for one hour each. Hours are 8 am - 4:45 pm, Monday through Friday, except holidays.

Wisconsin Register of Deeds Association
The Register of Deeds files, records and issues instruments and documents of significance both to the community as a whole and to its individual citizens. Vital records document the span of our lives from birth to death. Applications, fee schedules and county addresses are available at this site.

Maintained by the National Center for Health Statisitics, Where to Write for Vital Records provides contact information for those States that will provide copies of birth, death, marriage and divorce records.
