About Social Work Outreach at Your Library
In 2018 L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library was approached by the Eau Claire City Council about the opportunity of developing new positions to address the Eau Claire’s strategic goals and objectives. Soon after funding was established for the development of a social work position in the library. In 2019 Libby was hired as Wisconsin’s first library social worker.
Library social workers provide a low barrier opportunity for all individuals to have the ability to access the unique resource of a social worker. Social workers have been in libraries since 2009 in varying capacities. This has worked so well because libraries are a default place for people to go when they need help and are not sure where to go.
