The Library Is Moving!

Here’s What to Expect

Big changes are in store for your downtown library. The L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library is currently moving to its temporary location at 2725 Mall Drive while our 44-year-old facility at 400 Eau Claire Street undergoes remodeling and expansion (set to begin in May). The temporary location uses a large portion of a building occupied by United Health. This new facility is where you will access the library’s collection of books and other media, public computers, and reference services.

After months of planning, library staff is working hard to ensure a smooth transition to the Mall Drive facility. This location will provide users with ample parking and good access to public transportation. To accomplish such a large and complex operation, the library has temporarily paused all of its services.

Deputy Library Director Shelly Collins-Fuerbringer says, “It will be a massive undertaking to move operations from roughly 60,000 square feet of space to approximately 35,000 square feet of space. We have had years to fine-tune operations in this building, so we will plan to take some time to get settled and determine how those same services will happen in the temporary location before we announce a reopening date. We know the staff is eager to get settled so we can resume service to the community.”
