Ripple
Mary Hermanson
Pieced fabric
“Ripple represents the image of “Ripple in still water, when there is no pebble tossed, nor wind to blow” (Grateful Dead). This captures the idea that everything is connected, even when no obvious cause or effect can be observed. The “ripple effect” is an abstract metaphor to describe how our actions (or non-actions) reverberate throughout the physical and social world. In my work I use the elements and principles of design, combined with the symmetry of kaleidoscopic design, and the techniques of traditional quilting to cut, match, and sew over 300 pieces of fabric.”
