“For an artist working in portraiture capturing the likeness of the subject is obviously very important, but equally important is capturing the essence of the subject, and, for me, creating interest beyond the subject is a goal to strive for. Just as there is no one way to view a painting, there is no one way to paint a portrait, and certain subjects seem to suggest differing styles and mediums in their painting. I think portraits can evoke imagination and wonder causing the viewer to consider something beyond the surface that exists in the story they actively develop by participating in its viewing.”
