Mending the Hurt
textiles including hand-dyed and painted, beads, painted cheesecloth
“This piece is part of a series that explores what I call ‘My Personal Geology’. A strata comprised of many layers of fabric and stitching reflects a variety of influences: family, geography, education, for example. The orb has cuts and tears indicative of the harm caused by abuse. Stitching is used to mend those cuts and tears, not to make them go away completely, but to show that something beautiful can come from the hurt.”
