Playground of Consequences

Janice Roberts

“’Playground Consequences’ was inspired by one of the many ornate limestone carvings on the historic Central High School in Duluth, MN.  All of the intricate work felt more befitting an old Italian church or Renaissance building than a public high school. This particular carving is of a fresh-faced youth with hair billowing in the breeze. A piece of the youngster’s nose was broken off as if a result of the playground bully.  That encounter represents the endless struggles endured by so many over the generations. The loose pen technique was used to capture the softness of the slightly eroded limestone.”
