Sunflowers for Sally
Susan Phelps Pearson
acrylic on canvas
Bold, brash sunflowers joyfully follow the sun,
letting it color the yellow of their faces.
It is almost a sin to steal them from the earth
and trap them in a vase.
“I am 84, and I don’t work as long as I used to. My body complains. But my mind is constantly busy seeing, imagining, and planning. I am still amazed at the endless possibilities that I observe every day. The world is full of pictures waiting to be painted and things waiting to be assembled. Surely there is a way to make 84 years of clutter into something brilliant. (Maybe a fire!?)
So much to do, so little time.”
