THE EXHIBIT
In 1984, students, organizations, and businesses in Eau Claire exchanged letters and artwork with the city of Velikiy Ustyug (in the former Soviet Union). The artwork in this exhibit was created by students 10 to 14 years old as part of a city pairing project affiliated with the Ground Zero Pairing Project, a non-profit nuclear education organization.
Volodya Polgin’s work “The Struggle of Darkness with Light” was dedicated to the 600th anniversary of the battle of Kulikovo, which ended Mongol rule. Most of the other works were inspired by landscapes and personal experiences.
The artwork is part of the library’s permanent collection, which was re-discovered during the move to our temporary location. We thought that the creative student artwork deserved another look.
Artwork in this show is not for sale.
