Staying Connected to the Library with Limited Mobility

October 27, 2025/in Library Services/by Jenny, Reference Services

There are times in life when getting out and about isn’t as easy as usual, whether you’re recovering from surgery, managing a long-term medical condition, or caring for a loved one. Even when it’s difficult to visit the library in person, we want to make sure you can continue to enjoy everything we have to offer. Having good books to read, movies to watch, or music and audiobooks to listen to can make a big difference in your day, and we’re here to help you access them in whatever way works best for you.

Visiting the Library

If you’re able to visit, here are things to make it more convenient:

  • Accessible Parking: Two handicapped parking spaces and one limited-mobility space are available in the lower-level parking area.
  • Elevator Access: The elevator, located just inside the lower-level entrance, can take you to any floor.
  • Book Carts: Small “shopping” carts are available so you don’t need to carry your items.
  • Staff Assistance: Library staff on both floors are always happy to help you find materials and answer questions.

Drive-Thru Pick-Up and Returns

If it’s easier to stay in your car, you can use our drive-thru window in the lower-level parking area to pick up holds placed in the MORE catalog. Just make sure to choose Eau Claire Drive-Thru as your pickup location when placing your holds. If someone else is picking up your items for you, that’s fine too. They’ll just need to bring your library card.

There is also an automated return in the lower-level parking area, so you can drop off materials without coming inside. It’s a quick, easy way to keep your library routine going when your mobility is limited.

Home Delivery Service

For those who have difficulty visiting the library, our Home Delivery Service brings library materials right to your door.  This free service can be used long-term or temporarily while you recover from surgery or treatment. Deliveries are made every three weeks, either by one of our wonderful volunteers or our library van.

You are welcome to choose your own items, or our Home Delivery staff can select materials for you based on your interests and preferences.  There is a short application to get started on the program including a brief conversation with our Home Delivery Coordinator.

Learn more and start an application here: www.ecpubliclibrary.info/delivery or call 715-839-4857 for details.

We know how much joy and comfort library materials can bring, and we never want mobility challenges to stand in the way. Whether you’re coming in, using the drive-thru, or receiving home delivery, we’re here to help you stay connected to the library and to the stories, music, and movies that make life a little brighter.
