Gil Andrew is Assistant Secretary. WB Calkins Assistant Secretary. Fred Zachau Assistant Treasurer. Most livestock slaughtered raised within 75 miles of EC. Yearly capacity of plant 100,000 hogs, 45,000 calves & 25,000 cattle. Presently employ 260.

1944-03-30 Crime Jack LaPean repudiates his written confession to murder of Ray Robeson. (Ray Benrude comes in with Mrs. Green with whom he was living & had illegitimate child who died. Benrude met Green in prison.

1944-03-26 Buildings (maybe it is March 20) 1944 Bunce Hotel 421 Galloway to be wrecked by Roberts Co. wholesale growers. Building originally stood on site of present city auditorium, was built by Herman Stockhausen in 1880 & operated by him as hotel for some time, then moved to 421 Galloway St. & brick front put on, operated until 1911, when it was sold to Mark Bunce for hotel.

1944-03-07 County Assylum Two elderly patients struggle in fight, one a Chippewa Indian, 77, suddenly sprang on another patient, 79, saying "I'll" kill you." In struggle that followed, the Indian was knocked down and hit his head on a cot and was killed. All patients tell same story so no further investigations will be made.
