1891-06-22 East Side Schools Reverend Barrett was first principal of Bartlett school, Howland 2nd District board was W. P. Bartlett, Martin Daniels, C. R. Gleason. Later Reverend W. H. Lockwood became clerk in place of Gleason & kept position until schools consolidated. Daniels was treasurer until he died in 1872, then F. W. Woodward. Bartlett was on board 30 years.

Manufactures specialties; Winslow's Cough Remedy, Winslow's Magnetic Oil Liniment, Winslow's Magic Balm, Blod Purifier, etc. TA Cernaghan livery & sales stable corner Farwell & Gibson stable 60 feet by 120 feet, brick, two story. SA Lund butcher & packer corner Barstow & Gray, 18 years in business. Born Norway, came EC 33 years ago.

1891-05-11 Lumbering Isaiah Hale died at Ft. Madison, Iowa. Former EC resident. Was president of Pioneer Lumber Co. which failed. Dells Lumber Co. now has their quarters.

Bonded indebtedness $245,000 of which $95,000 for Dells Dam.

1891-02-02 City Growth EC Grover Co. to have four-story building on EC St. on lots purchased from EC Lumber Co. John Walter & Co. have stone for four-story malt house 100 feet deep. TA Harrigan will probably build a three-story brick building on southwest corner EC & Barstow. Doctors Noble & Parker will replace their property on Barstow near Kelsey with elegant business block. Alderman Kneer will tear down stable on Barstow & replace with two or three-story stone building. A power elevator & other metropolitan improvements will be made to Music Hall block, possibly another story added. Blacksmith shop northeast corner Bridge & 2nd Ave. Sold by SE Smith to James Rocha? No snow in Ec yet this year.

1891-01-04 Fires Notice signed by G.M. Daniels, chief of fire department. "Through stupidity, ignorance or drunkenness people are driving over our hose at nearly every fire. The cutting or breaking of a section of hose means a loss to the city of $50 and perhaps a life or many thousands of dollars worth of property. Hereafter the ordinance prohibiting the driving over the hose will be rigidly enforced and the offender arrested."
