Class of more juvenile character $3, in charge of female assistance. Miss JS Hall teaches modern languages and English Literature.
1861-09-12 Civil War Stella Whipple left at noon last Friday with Badgers, made run of C. that night. Co. formed in front of EC House at 10. Marched to boat accompanied by friends. A. Meggett made speech of farewell. Reached Prairie du Chien by Sunday and Madison next day. Changed name to EC Eagles at Madison.

1861-05-10 Civil War EC Badgers Co. full. Captain John Taylor, 1st Lieutenant A. S. Bostwick, 2nd Lieutenant Henry Hunter, 3rd Lieutenant Oscar Sargent, Orderly Sargent A. G. Ellis. Captain Taylor left for Madison to tender the services of his Co. to the Governor.

1861-04-26 Civil War There will be a meeting of the patriotic citizens of EC and vicinity at Reed's Hall on Monday evening the 29th to get up a company to fight the battles of our country. Speakers and singing may be expected.
1861-04-12 Ferries Upper ferry broke away on Monday evening while some dozen persons were attempting to cross river. The ice crowded it near the shore and persons jumped ashore. The boat floated down and smashed up against the boom near Smith and Buffington's mill. Ferry in full ballast of successful operation. Repaired, and works well. Rates are lowest ever -- no credit.

No other ferry to be run within 1/4 mile.

1860-11-30 Chapman and Thorp Chapman and Thorp building a dam across Eau Claire River two and a half miles above bridge. Foundation is rock. Ledges of rock rise perpendicular on either side of shore. Length will be two hundred forty feet; gives a fall if fifteen feet. Built of large sized trees. Dam is fine one and reflect credit on skill and energy of Wm H Todd who had contract to build it for $5,000.
