What is the Young Writers Gallery?

The Young Writers Gallery is a partnership between the Chippewa Valley Book Festival and the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library, created to celebrate and showcase the work of young authors (birth–age 18). Each month, three writers will be chosen by lottery to share their original writing with the community in a special library display.

What can I display?

    • Submissions must be the writer’s original work (fan fiction is allowed if credited to the original creator) and may include up to three individual pieces.
    • Each submission should be no more than three 8.5” x 11” pages.
    • Submissions must be handwritten or typed and must be legible. If typed, font size should be at least 12 pts.
    • All genres and styles of writing are welcome. Submissions will be reviewed but not edited.
    • Pieces may include illustrations, but they should make up no more than 75% of the total work and will count toward the three-page limit. All illustrations must be created by the child.
    • Submissions must be delivered ready to mount. Library staff will mount the pieces.
    • Writing must be kid- and family-friendly, school-appropriate, and free of offensive or discriminatory language.
    • Library staff reserves the right to reject any submission that does not follow these gallery guidelines.
    • Submissions are displayed in a public space, and the library cannot guarantee against loss or damage.
    • After your show, library staff will contact you to let you know when your piece(s) and comment cards are ready to be picked up.
    • Any pieces not picked up by the given deadline will become the property of the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library.

How do I know if I’m selected?

Three authors will be selected monthly from the “lottery” pool of submissions. If you are selected, Youth Services staff will notify you by email or phone one month before your scheduled display. Instructions will be sent to you once you have been selected.

How does the lottery system work?

The lottery opens August, 2025. You do not need to re-enter the lottery each month. Once you are entered, your name will remain in the lottery through September 2026.
