Hunt for fun @ the library!

Does your kid love scavenger hunts? Come to the library! There is always a scavenger hunt in Youth Services which rotates every couple of months. All hunts are designed for both pre-readers and kids that read. These hunts are a fun family activity, and the prize at the end is usually a high five from the Youth Librarian. Come to the library anytime we are open and try a scavenger hunt today!

Bonus at-home scavenger hunt activity…

Hang Out in The Lookout!

Have you been to The Lookout? It’s a space here at the Eau Claire Library meant just for our school age visitors! We were excited to add this area to Youth Services during our renovation, and we immediately filled it with all sorts of fun things to discover and do.
In The Lookout, you will find iPads loaded with tons of games, computers for kids and their grown-ups to use, a weekly Try-It Tray activity, art supplies, board games, a scavenger hunt, and various other special activities. And, since we are constantly thinking of new fun things to do, many of the activities change weekly—so you should find something new just about every time you are here. Make sure to check out The Lookout during your next visit to the library. It just might become your new favorite place to hang out!

Art Week at the Library!

Chase away the February blues with Art Week at the library! Most Eau Claire schools are off Thursday and Friday, so we are celebrating!

All week long, the Youth Services division will offer drop-in art stations and scavenger hunts in the library.

We are also hosting professional artist Dan Gogh who will be teaching two free art workshops online! The “Drawing Animals Workshop” is offered for elementary aged students, and tweens and teens in 5th grade can attend the “Drawing Manga Workshop.” Both are on Friday, February 25. Register here to receive the zoom link.

But, wait, there’s more!

On Thursday, February 24, join us on Zoom for Pajama Storytime Online at 6:30 p.m. Be sure to snuggle up in your snazziest PJs! This Storytime will feature bedtime stories, songs, and all the Storytime fun you’ve come to expect. Register here to receive the Zoom link.

And, of course, we always offer books, movies, video games, maker kits, and so much more, so stock-up for chilly weather and family time. Be sure to stop down – we’re always happy to see you!

Scavenger Hunt- at home!

Scavenger hunts are one of the most popular and highly requested activities for kids at the library.

For anyone who has been missing our hunts, try out this new scavenger hunt at home!  This hunt has an extra challenge: everything you find must be either black or white.  How many items can you find?!

Scavenger Hunt: Characters

Scavenger Hunt @ Home: Book, Movie, and TV Characters

Hello, library families! Are you searching for fun family activities to do at home, especially as the weather turns cooler and rainier this week? Try this fun indoor scavenger hunt! I’ve included prompts for talking, playing, and writing for various ages, just as I do in the Play and Learn at the library in order to bring a bit of the library home to you. Have fun! We’d love to see a picture of you and your character treasures, so be sure to email us with how your scavenger hunt @ home went.

For this scavenger hunt, I searched all over my house for objects relating to 1) book characters and, 2) movie and television characters. Maybe you could try that, too? Or go on an “I Spy” scavenger hunt with the pictures below.

Scavenger Hunt 1: Book Characters

• How many objects relating to book characters did you find at your home? Make a list!

• Tell the story about where a favorite object came from

OR

• How many objects relating to book characters do you see here? Count them up!

• Which book character is your favorite?

• Do you see the gold ring? Do you know who it belongs to?

Scavenger Hunt 2: Movie and Television Characters

• How many objects relating to movie/television characters did you find at your home? Make a list!

• Use the objects and your imagination to act out a new scene or write a piece of fanfiction.

OR

• How many objects relating to movie and television characters do you see here?

• Which movie or television character is your favorite?

• That is a very special dolphin in the picture! Do you know her name?
