Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan is a free service, giving access to library materials (both academic and public) that our library consortium doesn’t own. Materials ordered on Interlibrary Loan through this library must also be picked up and returned at L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library. Checkout periods are usually similar to those of our library. A realistic response time is two to three weeks, but it can be anywhere from one to six weeks, depending on the availability of the item.

If you can’t find an item in our online catalog and it has been published for at least 6 months, search WISCAT to discover items in over 1,200 Wisconsin Libraries. When you find your desired item in WISCAT, you may scroll down this page to use the “Submit a Request” form to start your request process.

Some guidelines to consider:

  • Customers are limited to five requests per week and are encouraged to request materials they are able to use and return in a two-week period.
  • Home Delivery customers are limited to two requests per week to accommodate their scheduled delivery and return cycle completed by library staff and volunteers.
  • The same title can be requested no more than three times.
  • Customers must have a valid Full Access Library Card that is in good standing. Basic library card holders (2-item checkout limit) are not eligible to request materials through Interlibrary Loan.
  • Pre-publication titles, popular materials on bestseller lists or high demand titles in all formats (e.g., new media) do not qualify for borrowing through Interlibrary Loan. Instead, customers can submit a suggestion for purchase or place a hold on the title through our online catalog.
  • Customers can request multiple copies for book discussion groups of titles whose publication date is more than 12 months past.
  • Requests for newspaper articles is limited due to copyright, license agreements, and cannot be guaranteed.
