“When I was young, I spent much of my free time outside. My family was fortunate enough to have a sizeable yard encircled by large, wooded lots that we were free to explore. My core memories from growing up consist of spending time in this outdoor environment building forts, creating cross-country skiing trails, and spending entire days in our pool.

Undoubtedly, these experiences have had a significant influence on who I am today. I can recall a number of these memories with absolute clarity, while others are more difficult to recall. As I continue to grow older, it is likely that even more of these childhood moments will gradually fade away. Regardless of the clarity of these memories, the emotions tied to them and the impact they’ve had on my development remains the same.

I have formed this work to represent both clarity and lapses in memory I encounter when thinking about these formative moments from my childhood. The image of the yard I grew up in, fragmented as a result of weaving sharp and blurred versions together, emphasizes this idea. Furthermore, different features of the print become hidden and/or more readable depending on viewing distance. The meditative weaving process gives me time to reflect on my upbringing and how it has shaped me, and an even more personal image is created from the clear use of the human hand. The viewer is invited into the space before them to meditate on their own personal experiences.”
