Opium’s Ingestible Offspring
Lindamerry Udell
watercolor
“Food for Thought – The earliest reference to opium growth and use is in 3,400 B.C. when the opium poppy was cultivated in lower Mesopotamia. Too many opioids were created from a simple poppy and have spiraled out of control in this century. Colors and textures drive my ongoing learning of water media. The play of light and shadow, and the myriad of colors seen in nature at different times of the day and year are influential in my color mixes. Techniques that allow paint to flow and blend in order to capture an atmospheric essence is an ultimate goal. Art is emotion and I continue to grow as an artist. There is much to learn. Nature is a beautiful display of visual, sensory and olfactory experiences. Life is meant to be enjoyed to the fullest.”
