watercolor batik
“This watercolor owl, created on delicate semi-sheer rice paper, was painted, waxed, crumpled and painted again before removing the wax and revealing its final form. Watercolor batik was the technique chosen to showcase the wonderful texture of the bird’s feathers and highlight its incredible eyes. Art is my way of sharing something precious and honoring the specialness of these wonderful woodland creatures. Hearing them softly hoot in the distance woodland, or better yet, coming upon one on an evening hike prompted me to paint this special bird. They fly softly through the night, typically unheard and unseen. They are the subject of mystery and legend. They have always intrigued me.”
