Concrete is Abstract

Janice Roberts

colored pencil

“As a lover of architecture, the new gallery space of the LE Phillips Memorial Public Library was especially intriguing. The intersecting angles of light and structure struck me as if it were an abstract painting. I thought it ironic that the vision in front of me was made of concrete but had an abstract quality. Hence, the title. Having recently attended a colored pencil workshop by Allan Servoss, I was interested in pushing the limits of how this medium burnishes and builds colors.”
