Half Empty or Half Full

Rachel Hausmann-Schall

Ink, gesso, graphite, conté crayon, and collage

Size: 11″ x 15″
Price: $280 each

“Rooted in abstraction, I focus on the immediacy and accessibility of collage as a medium. I am interested in mark making and the combination of different textures to achieve a type of balanced chaos. My creative practice relies on intuitive reactions to colors, shapes, lines, and negative space. I often combine alternative processes with more traditional collage practices in an attempt to discover my voice within the medium. This work was inspired by the phrase, “is the glass half empty or half full?” and asks the viewer to consider their understanding of an optimistic or pessimistic outlook.”
