Closing Time

“In the dim evening light on a Serbian street corner, a lone vendor closes her kiosk. This alone may not give any passers-by pause; closing up is something every business does, usually on a daily basis. Yet in this simple action, we can explore the persistence of routine over the years as both a meditative and resilient act. The glow of the booth, contrasted by the encroaching darkness of evening, points out the shop-keeper’s actions much as a spotlight directs an audience towards an actor’s performance. My hope is that this image presents a lesson: to stop, to take a moment, and reflect on the simple, repetitive actions taken in our day-to-day lives, and think on their grounding power and impact.”
