“In psychoanalysis, “flight of ideas” refers to the continuous flow of accelerated speech – with abrupt changes from topic to topic – usually based on understandable associations to life events often described as manic episodes. Artistically, it is the cathartic exercise of laying down the paint, writing the song, or putting the poetry in motion before the inspiration passes and the idea goes stagnant.”
