“Polychromos oil-based color pencil typically over an under-painting of pastel. Graphite may be incorporated as a line drawing or for fine detail. All art is done on 300lb. Fabriano Artistico hot press watercolor paper. No white pigments are used. Mike Zierke’s artwork reveals an overall mood using the effects of light, color, value, and the subtleties of texture and weight. Through many layers of pigment, a sense of luminosity and depth is achieved. The design of subject matter relationships created from a personal experience tries to bring the viewer into the mind’s eye of the artist and hopefully allows the painting to speak and to be felt. The works of Robert Bateman, Thomas Moran, Joel Johnson, and his father, Bill have contributed to his development as an artist.”
