Turn Around, Bright Eyes
Nadine Bearson
oil on birch board
“I turned to oil painting after experiencing creative career burnout, the passing of a beloved dog, and a late-life ADHD diagnosis that forced a re-contextualization of my past. I use painting to process this emotional weight; my works are often autobiographical, exploring themes of sadness, anxiety, and grief. In seeking joy in the act of painting again, I marked the adoption of our rescue puppy in 2025 with this portrait – titled “Turn around, bright eyes,” because every now and then I fall apart.”
