“Nicole Burt is a visual artist and adventurer from Eau Claire, WI, best known for her water-themed art inspired by her four years in Australia. Her work explores the significant connection between people and the natural world. She engages the viewer with the water crisis in a poetic nature, exposing an unbeautiful subject matter yet attracting the eye through the beauty of her art. George Nuku’s philosophy on water and plastic pollution and his contemporary sculptures have informed her art. Nuku states that plastics are not garbage, but are valuable, beautiful, and even sacred materials, and that artists can help to change perspectives in the debate on climate change and justice. Burt discovers deeper meaning as she imagines how people, especially young people, will take on the challenge of the climate crisis. Burt wants to help us imagine and create the world we want to live in.”
