Delayed Escape
A. Schwelkart
colored pencil, chalk pastel
“A Schweikart is a current student at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). They are majoring in Illustration and minoring in Sequential Art and Music Composition. The idea of symbolism’s origin has always interested them. Why do different things make people feel a certain way? How were associations between meanings and objects formed? Why are they universally understood? These ideas transcend visual media and can be established through music, leading Schweikart to focus on interactions between symbols in what can be seen and heard. Because of the range of this topic, they feel it is fitting to work in a wide variety of physical media. Each tool serves its purpose in presenting the idea they want to get across. A maximalist at heart, their subject matter and color interactions are meant to be dissected. They hope to one day be able to compose musical soliloquies to go along with their visual work in order to activate multiple senses of the viewer.”
