Language Learning@Your Library

September 12, 2016/in Blog, Library Services, Special Interest/by Michaela, Technical Services

Are you traveling to a different country where the native language is something other than English? Are you someone who is not a native English speaker looking to expand your knowledge of the language? Have you always wanted to learn a second language but didn’t know where to start? If you can answer yes to any of these questions the library database Pronunciator may be for you!

Pronunciator is a language-learning service that is available to you free of charge. It offers access to courses for over 80 languages, spoken by 95% of the world’s population. And if your native tongue isn’t English, don’t worry! You can choose any one of 50 languages to take your courses in. To get started, follow the below steps:

  • Computer Requirements: Speakers/Headphones; Adobe Flash 10.0 or higher; JavaScript enabled; and cookies enabled.
  • Accessing the database: visit www.ecpubliclibrary.info; click “Explore”; choose “Databases”; select “Pronunciator”.
  • Registering as a student requires an Eau Claire library card number. An email is optional but recommended.
  • Logging in for the first time: access the database; use the username and password provided when you registered; select “Launch Pronunciator”

For more details on how to get started, stop at the Information & Reference desk on your next visit to the library, call 715-839-5004 or e-mail the library at librarian@eauclaire.lib.wi.us.  To learn more about what other databases the library offers visit www.ecpubliclibrary.info/databases-research.
