The Best Pan in the Pantry

The Best Pan in the Pantry

December 18, 2017/in Blog, Special Interest/by Jon, Reference Services

As I talked about in my last blog post, I’ve been on a Keto diet since last August. Because of this, I’ve made much more significant attempts to make food at home rather than going through the drive-thru at McDonald’s. What I discovered on this adventure is that I found myself using my one cast iron skillet for everything!

While using the grill and visiting with your friends and family outside during the warm months is great, the grill really can’t beat the flavor you can get out of cooking with your cast iron skillet. I don’t think I’ll ever buy steak at a restaurant again after mastering it on my skillet. It takes a couple tries, but you can get the hang of getting a perfect sear on a steak super easy. Burgers and chicken are made quick and easy as well. And to top it all off, it’s also simple and easy to clean.

That’s only scratching the surface of the potential of the cast iron skillet though. In the library, you can find plenty of great cookbooks with amazing ideas specifically for your skillet. Just look in the MORE catalog! Though you may need to put a couple of these on hold as I think I might check some of these out myself! Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even dessert can all be done easily with this one pan!

If you don’t already have a cast iron skillet, maybe you can sneak one onto your Christmas list real quick, or maybe I gave you the perfect gift idea for someone else! These pans are extremely durable and can last you for a very long time. Or maybe your parent or grandparent passed one down to you and it’s hidden away somewhere and you didn’t even realize you had one!

Happy cooking!
