Don’t Miss These Summer Reads

August 26, 2019/in Blog/by Michaela, Technical Services

As summer slowly fades into fall I wanted to take this opportunity to look back and share some book titles that you may have missed.

The Bride Test by Helen Hoang (Contemporary Romance) – Believing he cannot experience big emotions–like love, or grief, Khai Diep avoids relationships, until his mother travels to Vietnam and returns with Esme Tran.

Hot Comb by Ebony Flowers (Graphic Novel) – Hot Comb offers a poignant glimpse into black women’s lives and coming-of-age stories as seen across a crowded, ammonia-scented hair salon while ladies gossip and bond over the burn.

Magic for Liars by Sarah Gailey (Mystery/Urban Fantasy) – A private investigator and talented liar embarks on a search for a killer at a California private academy for mages where her estranged, magically gifted twin hides in plain sight.

Inland by Tea Obreht (Historical Fiction/Literary Fiction) – An unexpected relationship between a frontierswoman riding out the Arizona Territory drought of 1893 and a former outlaw, who has the ability to see ghosts, inspires an epic journey across the West.

Aurora Rising by Amie Kaugman (Science Fiction/Space Opera) – Relegated by a misguided act of heroism to a squad comprised of his school’s hopeless misfits, a graduating cadet in a 24th-century space academy rescues a centuries-hibernating girl from interdimensional space only to be swept up in an interstellar war millions of years in the making.

Red, White, & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston (LGBTQIA Romance) – A big-hearted romantic comedy in which the First Son falls in love with the Prince of Wales after an incident of international proportions forces them to pretend to be best friends.

Under Currents by Nora Roberts (Romantic Suspense) – Discovering unexpected allies when his successful father’s rages spiral out of control, Zane draws strength and insights from the darkness of the past to create a healthier family in adulthood.

The Wedding Party by Jasmine Guillory (Contemporary Romance) – Maddie and Theo have two things in common: Alexa is their best friend, and they hate each other. After an “oops, we made a mistake” night together, neither one can stop thinking about the other. With Alexa’s wedding rapidly approaching, Maddie and Theo both share bridal party responsibilities that require more interaction than they’re comfortable with.

The Perfect Fraud by Ellen LaCorte (Thrillers & Suspense) – Two women with dangerous respective secrets are thrown together by a chance meeting that plunges both of their realities into chaos, placing the life of a sick child at risk.

Keeping Lucy by T. Greenwood (Historical Fiction/Women’s Lives and Relationships) – Forced by her powerful in-laws to institutionalize a daughter born with Down Syndrome, a grieving mother turns fugitive in the wake of harrowing discoveries about her daughter’s hospital.
