Goodbye Pizza, Bread, and Candy

Goodbye Pizza, Bread, and Candy

October 9, 2017/in Blog, Special Interest/by Jon, Reference Services

I’m not ashamed to admit it, but I’m a bit overweight. I have a love for food that I haven’t always been able to reel in and control. In late August, however, I decided to make a change and change my eating habits. After doing a lot of research, I came upon a “diet” called Keto, which is a diet that is high in fat intake and extremely low in carb (20 grams per day). While that seemed like a challenging way to go, the benefits seemed worth it.

The biggest hump starting off was realizing how many foods that I love that I could no longer eat. As the title suggests, anything made with flour and sugar were out. Aside from the library, I also work at Festival Foods in the Grocery department. You never knew you could crave something so bad until your manager makes you restock the entire Halloween candy section at the front of the store. It was also a big surprise how many foods have a lot of carbs that you wouldn’t think of: beans, potatoes, berries, and so much more.

On the other hand, there are enough things I enjoy to keep me sane: steak, salad, burgers and brats (sans buns), Buffalo wings, chicken, and a ton more. Using the MORE catalog, I was able to find plenty of awesome books.

The best thing so far is the benefits it has provided me. I have so much more energy and I feel much more awake during the day. I only get hungry around the times I usually eat and I feel full faster from the foods I’m eating. If you’re looking for a change of lifestyle, definitely look into the Keto diet and see if it would be right for you.
