Resolve to Read in 2019

January 7, 2019/in Blog, Library Services/by Michaela, Technical Services

Are you in a reading rut, or looking to broaden your book horizons? Well, look no further. The Diversity Challenge will help you dive into reading by completing a book from a different category each month during 2019. It offers you a chance to read something you may not have considered before, and a chance to win prizes!

When you register to participate you will be given a reading journal. It’s not just a way for us to keep track of your progress in the challenge. It contains reading inspiration for each book category, and is a convenient place to keep track of your thoughts about the new books you will discover. It includes a recommended reading schedule. For example, in April we suggest reading a book recommended by a librarian. Not sure where to start? No problem! We’ve put together a list of titles that library staff members consider to be their favorites. Reading inspiration for each month may also be found on our website here.

What if you’re not in the mood for the month’s recommended category? Feel free to mix and match the categories and months. Don’t feel like reading a classic in June? Don’t worry about it. Read it another month when you feel up to the challenge. Just make sure to read a book from a new category each month, and visit us at Information & Reference for a chance to win $10 in Chamber Buy Local Bucks.

If you are able to complete all 12 categories of the Diversity Challenge, you will win an automatic prize of a free book of your choice, and be entered to win the grand prize, a Kindle Fire. This program is a great way to jumpstart your 2019 reading goals so I hope that you are up to the challenge. You may register for the program here.

IditaREAD Winter Reading RaceLooking ahead: Starting February 1, you will also be able to register for our IditaREAD Winter Reading Race. Read three books and write a short book review for a chance to win even more prizes. The best part? Titles you read can be counted in both the Winter Reading Program and the Diversity Challenge!
