Where’s My Media?

Where’s My Media?

February 5, 2018/in Blog, Library Services/by Kevin, Reference Assistant

After hearing about that hot new (or old) book, music CD, audiobook, game, or DVD, you head over to the catalog search to see if it’s available. And if it is, great! You can pick it up directly or place a regular hold through MORE and receive the item soon. But if you don’t find it there, here are a few things you can try:

Is the item relatively new or suddenly popular? In that case, you could make a suggestion for purchase. You’ll need your library card and information about the item, such as the title and creator. After you submit the suggestion, library staff will review your request and put it on hold for you should they decide to purchase it. This process can take a few weeks.

Was the item released more than four months ago? If so, you could request an Interlibrary Loan. Give us a call at 715-839-5004, send us an email, or stop by Information & Reference with the title, creator, and other relevant information, and we’ll be happy to make a request for you from libraries outside of the MORE system or to train you on making your own requests. After training, you’ll be able to check on the status of your pending loans, too. Interlibrary Loan requests can take a bit longer than regular holds or suggestions for purchase—usually 2 to 6 weeks—and you can only make 5 Interlibrary Loan requests per week. You can read more about Interlibrary Loan requests.

Drop by Information & Reference if you have any questions about either process, and happy reading/listening/playing/watching!
