Let’s Binge Watch

September 17, 2018/in Blog, Curiosities, Library Services, Staff Picks/by Renee, Reference Services Manager

As a child, I was definitely a Television addict, and I more often than not got to choose what was viewed. Many of the shows listed below I watched as first run episodes. I’m not so old that all were first run! But a good many were. I still enjoy watching them either on DVD or as television reruns to this day. These shows definitely have staying power.

While thinking about these television shows, I started remembering TV theme songs. In just remembering the title of the show, the theme song simply comes into my head. I wonder if this happens to you. Especially the songs of the classic shows. The Jetsons: Meet George Jetson, his boy Elroy, Daughter Judy, Jane his wife…,” or, “They’re creepy and they’re kooky, Mysterious and spooky, They’re altogether ooky, The Addams Family,” or even, “They call him Flipper, Flipper, faster than lightning, No-one you see, is smarter than he, And we know Flipper, lives in a world full of wonder, Flying there-under, under the sea!”[1] Once the theme song starts running through your head, it is hard to stop.

The library has many of these shows available for check out. We also have many in our library system that can be placed on hold; the other libraries will send them here for you to pick up and check out. Look over the list – I am sure like me you remember many of them.

I am often asked why we don’t have a certain television series but another library does. The answer is that in order to provide more titles, we generally buy different television shows to increase what our consortium can offer. We share our catalog with 52 other libraries! You can see what we have and what they have using our online catalog.

These shows premiered during the week of September 17 thru 23.
